Louisiana Medicaid cuts coming

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Major cuts are on the way to Louisiana's Medicaid Program. This will take place over the next two years. Health care providers are waiting for a plan from the state to cut more than $850 million. The president of the Louisiana Hospital Association says Governor Bobby Jindal must act quickly. He believes the longer a delay, the deeper the cuts will be over a shorter period of time. The medicaid program pays for health services for the poor, uninsured, disabled, and the elderly. The state had planned for a $7.7 billion medicaid budget for this fiscal year.
