MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A big donation to the Overton Brook VA Medical Center, will help local veterans get the care they need.

Thanks to a generous gift from the Disabled American Veterans of West Monroe, patients can now be transported from their homes to their appointments in Monroe and Shreveport.

JP Morgan Chase footed the bill for the 5-seat Subaru Tribeca SUV.

Public Affairs Officer, Sandy Franks, says, "Sometimes gas prices are so high, and it may cause a veteran to say 'Well I can't afford the gas to go to my appointment,' and we certainly don't want that situation. They have earned the benefits they have through the VA and we want to make sure that they get the care that they need."

The VA Clinic is asking for volunteers, both Veterans and civilians, to drive the new vehicle. If you are interested in joining the Voluntary Transport Network, visit www.volunteer.va.gov, or call the Overton Brook VA Medical Center at 318-221-8411.
