MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Two separate shootings left three people dead in South Monroe. "Every indication is those could have only been prevented by only the people who were involved in them." said Fried.
The Monroe Police Department say the violent crimes over the weekend were isolated incidents. As a result, Major James Fried says extra patrols will not be added to the area. "That involved activity that we could not have foreseen, so no this is not something that we are going to see happen in that area again." said Fried.
Over the span of two days, three men are dead in two separate shootings in South Monroe. Two bodies were found Saturday on 400 Allen Avenue, police believe the men from Arkansas were murdered in a robbery set up trying to buy drugs.
Accused of involvement in the double homicide are 22 year old Willie Lockridge Junior, 33 year old Latara Williams and 55 year old Gregory Payne.
Late Sunday, a Monroe man, Leon Holliday was found shot in his car on South 21st street. No suspect has been identified yet. Police say while they will not increase patrols, they encourage concerned neighbors to call in suspicious activity. "If there is something to it, obviously we can address it, but we can definitely extra patrol that area if there is a concern about that." Fried added that traditionally as the heat increases, so does violent crime. But criminals, be reminded, with crimes come serious consequences. "People who are criminals, I would like to see them put their guns down, people who are law abiding and protecting themselves, I would like for them to protect themselves."
If you have any information regarding the South 21st street shooting, call Crime Stoppers at 318-388-cash, or 388-2274.
