MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - One group is offering some help to those who are trying to beat the heat and don't have a cool place to stay. Kicking off Monday, the Salvation Army in Monroe is opening a cooling and hydration station.

They will open their doors for a couple hours each day for anyone needing a break from the sun. The non-profit will even offer water, games, and snacks for their guests. Jennifer Williams says they're opening up the cooling spot during some of the hottest times of the day.

"We decided to do it between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. because one we're limited on volunteers and staff that can help us and two, those are the hottest parts of the day so if we're going to do it we're going to do it when it's needed most." said Williams. "Anyone can come, whether it's someone who doesn't have air conditioning, or someone who is staying out in the streets and doesn't have a place to go." Williams added.

Again, the cooling center is only be open this week between one and three in the afternoon until Friday.
