MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Many in the area turned out to the North Louisiana Bass Club. The event kicked off at 8 Saturday morning at Cheniere Lake and wrapped up around noon. This is the seventh year organizers have hosted the fishing tournament. Club leaders say this gives children the opportunity to learn a safe new skill for the summer.

"Something else to do. So much violence, gang violence. Steer their minds, show them another way and a way to relax and this is a good relaxing activity," Alford Cherry said.

" The most thing I like to do about this, go fishing out here. I been going fishing out here for two years," Cameron Miller said.

Awards were handed out to every child that went fishing. However, two first place awards were given to a boy and a girl who caught the biggest fish.
