MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - We will likely know by this time Thursday what the U.S. Supreme Court rules with the affordable health care act.
"The intent behind the law was good, I just think they did too much too fast." Dr. Gary Jones is the CEO of insurance company Vantage health plan. Jones says since President Obama's affordable care act passed, the company has been working quickly to meet all of the requirements. "It's been a little extra work for us since the law has passed but I think the biggest impact has really been on the employers who really watch their health care costs very closely."
The situation may soon change for Vantage and other insurance companies on Thursday, that's when the highest court is expected to rule on the constitutionality of law.
The possible outcomes range from the court upholding the entire law. Striking down the individual mandate and leaving the rest in place; or another potential ruling declaring the entire measure unconstitutional. Even if that's the case, some insurance companies like Vantage Health are pledging to keep some of the laws most popular features.
"Some of the mandates were practical and not costly I think what you are going to see is most of the insurance companies continue to cover those even though the mandate goes away"
The White House is confident the justices will rule in its favor. The ruling is expected to come down between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. EST Thursday morning. "Even though the law may go away or may stay, I think these changes will take place over the next few years, it just may be at a pace that we can all get used to and try to deal with the cost." said Jones.
