First Louisiana West Nile case

MOROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Louisiana health leaders want you to fight the bite this summer. This comes after the first human case of the West Nile Virus in the state surfaced in Saint Bernard Parish. The Ouachita Parish Abatement District also found dozens more mosquito pools tested positive for the virus. They say, you should wear long sleeved shirts, long pants, and mosquito repellant. Especially if you are outside during the evenings. Crews have been out spraying the area hoping to avoid an outbreak.

29 mosquito pools, representing 11 locations in Ouachita tested positive for West Nile.

They were from the Garden District, Between Forsythe Avenue and the Ouachita River, Near Highway 165 and Ferrand, River Oaks Subdivision, and near Lakeshore Subdivision.

In West Monroe: near First Baptist Church of West Monroe, West Monroe High School, between Wallace Dean and Ole Highway 15, near the intersection of Cypress and Warren Drive, near Hidden Lakes Subdivision, Darbonne Hills Subdivision, and Cheniere Drew Road area.
