MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Firefighters responded to a fire at an apartment complex off of 165 in Monroe. The fire broke out after noon on Thursday at the Woodwind Apartments on Northgate Drive. The blaze started on a balcony.

We have learned of no injuries and neighbors say animals from the apartment, four ferrets, a cat, and a snake, were rescued. Neighbor Cedric Price was one of the many neighbors who called 9-1-1 after seeing the fire.

"I heard something go BOOM and when it went boom I saw the fire spread. I didn't go in there because I'm scared of fire." Price said.

"Thank God nobody was in there, but everything is calm now. It was crazy at first, everyone was running from everywhere you know and stuff like that, but it's kind of calm now so." Price added.

The Ouachita Fire Department told KNOE surrounding apartments were affected, particularly the one above where the fire originated. The damage at the complex is estimated at $60,000.00. Fire investigators say it isn't clear what started the fire.
