MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The city of Monroe had its first opportunity to meet all the contestants for the Miss Louisiana pageant Monday morning as rehearsals for the big show began this afternoon.

"Here we have thirty six incredible, articulate, impressive, women" said Miss Louisiana 2011 Hope Anderson. "All vying for this thing on top of my head."

The state's current titleholder - Hope Anderson - offers the ladies some words of advice.

"My best piece of advice for them is just to enjoy it now because they've done all of the work," said Anderson. "They've put in the hard effort, the sweat the tears to get here in the first place."

Anderson said it's an honor just to be on the stage, and win or lose -  the organization offers huge prizes and scholarship opportunities for all of the ladies.

"These girls standing with us will receive about one million dollars in scholarship assistance," said Anderson. "Which is an incredible thing especially with the way our economy is  that they don't have to go into debt to obtain and undergraduate or a masters or even a doctorate."

Anderson said she's received over sixty thousand dollars in scholarship money in just four years.

"That's such a gift," said Anderson. "And I'm very thankful for it."
