El dorado plant to resume operations

Posted: Updated:

EL DORADO, Ar., (KNOE 8 News) - El Dorado Chemical says it will be beginning operations again shortly with a plan to bring the plan up to full operations within three months.

The plant, which produces chemicals for farming and industrial uses, was closed after an explosion there in mid-May. No one was injured in that blast, but it did bring plant operations to a halt temporarily.

Under the current plan, production of nitric acid and ammonium nitrate will begin this coming month, with general production continuing to be restarted within the next three months.

The reactor explosion originated in the plant's concentrated nitric acid plant, which is reported to be damaged too severely to be repaired.

The blast and resultant temporary halt to operations didn't result in any layoffs according to plant officials.
