MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 NEWS)- If you missed it, you won't ever get to see it again. Venus crossed the sun Tuesday evening, an event that only happens twice in a century.

Delta Community College held a viewing party for the rare event. Venus also journeyed across the sun in 2004, and after Tuesday it won't happen again until December of 2117. The college offered telescopes and screens for the public to safely view the "Venus Transit." Sun watchers say they are wowed by the spectacle, "It's special to see this little black dot moving across that bright sun disk." said sun viewer Bee Meadows.

"This is the first time we've seen anything like this and probably the last time we'll see in our lifetimes, so you know even if you're not a science geek or anything like that, this is still something spectacular to see." said sun viewer Melissa Medaries.

The rare planetary lineup also allowed NASA to study the planet's atmosphere.
