MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Many were flat out of luck if they had plans on driving anywhere Thursday morning. This surveillance video shows a man strolling 6th Street and slashing car tires - while residents were sleeping.
"Yeah about 4:30 this morning," said resident Theresa McNease. "He just enjoyed a little stroll and up and down the Garden District and did a good many vehicles.
Two of McNease's cars were vandalized. She said she didn't realize that her car was unsafe to drive until she got behind the wheel.
"I was on my way to work and I noticed it was driving kind of funny, so I pull over and it has a big gash in it," said McNease. "I'm just glad I was driving on the interstate going fast."
But the tire slasher didn't just damage cars, he broke into some cars and took out people's personal belongings.
"This is not something that expect to have to happen," said McNease. "A lot of people aren't able to plan for that. This victim's tire was slashed at seven times."
Now that the damage is done, people said someone needs to pay.
"I think the young man needs to have restitution," said McNease. "He need to make restitution that would be part of his sentence."
"I just wish the guy would get caught and have to pay for it," said resident Will Roach.
