MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Superintendent Kathleen Harris said the public needs to be aware that Monroe City School Board has a long history of conflict between its board and school leader.
"Even last night in one of the meetings, one of the board members said something to the affect that we do a lot of arguing when we sit here," said Harris.
Last night the board discussed Harris's employment evaluation - and voted down giving her a new contract. Most board members were blunt in their evaluations of Harris. Vickie Dayton described her as confrontational. Vickie Krutzer said Harris is argumentative - and others described her as ineffective, incompetent, unprofessional and vindictive.
"I did make those documents public," said Harris. "So that the public could get an understanding of how this board is evaluating its only employee."
Harris explained why she believes some board members are against her.
"The three board members who were the original three who voted not to bring me here continue to be the three board members who vote against any initiative that I make," said Harris. "Who continue to have question in public board meetings that suggest that there's something illegal going on in my administration."
After a tumultuous two years - Harris is hoping that the board will have a change of heart for the betterment of our children.
"Let's work to repair the relationship that is there," said Harris. "And go forward in the best interest of Monroe city."
