MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News)- Hundreds of motorcycle riders hit the streets of Monroe Monday morning.  It was a sight to be seen - as state police arrived at Monroe City Hall in a chopper - as they are escorting riders on a mission to honor those who've made the ultimate sacrifice.

"There should be about five hundred motorcycles coming through here today," said George Anzelmo, West Monroe V.F.W. Post Commander. "And their on their way to Washington D.C. to honor our POW's and MIA's."

Riders with The Run for the Wall motorcycle group honors prisoners of war and those missing in action.

"They're looking all the time to bring them home," said Anzelmo. "Here three years ago -with tears to my eyes. They found four guys from my unit and out of those four, George W. Bush gave their families medal of honors and the other two guys got distinguished service crosses and that was a big pride thing for my unit."

There was a wreath laying ceremony at Monroe City Hall in honor of our fallen heroes. Mayor Jamie Mayo and others showed their support to families and friends of those killed in action from all wars. Soldiers that one veteran said will never be forgotten

"God bless all the American veterans," said Anzelmo. "And never forget that you are a veteran."
