A tax reminder for Louisianians

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - Today's the deadline for filing your state tax returns in Louisiana.

You have until midnight tonight to get the tax return in the mail, electronically mailed, and/or to file for an extension to get more time to file.

If you need to file for an extension, the fastest way is to go to the state's website and ask for some extra time electronically. That site is www.revenue.louisiana.gov/extensions

Also, be patient. On this, the final day to file, you are likely to see some slowdowns on the state's websites.

But remember, if you owe money, it's due today and you are responsible for getting it in the mail before midnight even if you ask for and get an extension on the actual filing. (The same as in the case of your federal tax returns and payments)

Like the Feds, Louisiana will charge you interest and late payment penalties if you don't get what you owe the State in the mail by midnight tonight.
