MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - Aljerwan Moran was sentenced Tuesday in 4th District Court in Monroe.

He'd been convicted by a Ouachita Parish jury after a 4 day trial that concluded on November 18th of this past year.

Moran had contended that he had acted in self defense when 2 individuals burst into his apartment in an attempted robbery.  Judge James Boddie, in pronouncing sentence noted that Moran's contention was irrelevant since the evidence clearly showed that both victims were retreating, and were shot in the back.  Judge Boddie described it as an execution style killing.

In passing sentence, Judge Boddie sentenced the defendant on the 2nd degree murder charge to a life sentence at hard labor without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.

On the attempted murder, he sentenced the defendant to 30 years at hard labor, to be served consecutive to the life sentence.
