MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Franklin Parish Sheriff Kevin Cobb said deputies are doing what they can to put a stop to the use of meth in their community.

"Methamphetamine is highly addictive it effects our community," said Cobb. "It destroys lives and not the lives of the users but the families as well."

Monday they added to their list of drug arrest this month- by putting a dozen more people behind bars. These are mug shots of the twelve people accused of selling meth in the community.

"Monday morning we issued 16 drug related warrants," said Cobb. "Deputies and troopers arrested 12 individuals without an incident."

This investigation stems from the March murder of Colby Fortenberry at HWY 4 bar and the recent arrest of the bar owner, as a result of these cases deputies uncovered a parish wide meth distribution network.

"We must do everything in our power as a community as law enforcement officials to protect our youth from encountering these drugs," said Cobb. "The bottom line is this, I have children, other people have children and grandchildren and that alone invests us in this process."

Sheriff Cobb hopes the arrests will help disrupt drug use in neighboring parishes, but realizes their fight is on ongoing battle.

"Our job here is not over by far," said Cobb. "But at this time we're committed to pulling all our resources together to limit the supply of narcotics in this area. "
