GRETNA, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A Jefferson Parish jury has convicted a Kenner man of second-degree murder in the death a 7-year-old girl who was killed when shots tore into her River Ridge apartment.
The Times-Picayune reports that 23-year-old Andre Preston was convicted Wednesday and faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison. Preston also was convicted of attempted second-degree murder in an unrelated shooting two months earlier. State District Judge Nancy Miller will formally sentence him Feb. 27.
Last year, 23-year-old Roger Chairs, also of Kenner, was convicted in the case. Authorities have said they were shooting at a group of neighborhood rivals when bullets struck the little girl. Before his trial began, Preston pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute narcotics and possession of a firearm. Miller sentenced him to 15 years.
