MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) – Another development for the water company facing a potential takeover by the city of Bastrop.
Bastrop aldermen voted last week to take legal action against People's Water Service. The city wants a judge to interpret parts of an agreement between the two, which could push the process along and eventually force a sale to the city.
People's Water is a private company that the city had tried to buy earlier this year for over $3 million.
Bastrop's mayor wants to take over the company to try to stabilize the city's cash flow.
But People's attorney insists the company is not for sale and the city is breaking the law by trying to force the issue.
