Delhi, LA (KNOE 8 News) - Now in its seventy-second year, this event provides a showcase for 4-H and FFA club members from the Northeastern corner of the state.  The youth work year round, caring for their agricultural projects, including cattle, hogs, goats, sheep and rabbits.  But there is a higher purpose for the annual show.

Keith Collins, LSU AgCenter: "The goal of this is to develop good, responsible kids.  As they grow up and make leaders of this country, I don't think you'll find a better group of kids than those that come through these programs."

The members of 4-H and FFA chapters, while raising and grooming their projects, learn that responsibility is a daily process.

Bailey Keys, Tensas 4-H: "Feed him, water him, let him out and into the stall, clean the stall."

Sawyer Hibbard, Oak Grove Elementary 4-H: "We feed it twice a day and we check morning and night to see if it has babies, cause it is pregnant."

And there is more work involved in getting ready for competition in the livestock show.

Faith Guice, River Oaks 4-H: "Wash her first, blow her, make sure the hair is coming upward, so she'll look more full.  And then we put the show halter on.  Put final bloom and oil on her to make her pop out."

The kids will get recognition for their efforts during the Awards Ceremony at 11:30 Saturday Morning at the Delhi Civic Center. Plaques, belt buckles and even cash awards will be presented to the top finishers.
