MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - It's back to basics for the Louisiana Democratic Party.

"We have a lot of strong leadership here with Rep. Jackson, Rep. Hunter, Mayor Mayo, and others as well as members of our state and parish committees fro our party," Executive Director Renee Lapeyrolerie said.

State democrats are on a 10 day "Getting Back to the Basics Tour" to pump up their followers. They're stopping in 35 cities and their first two were in Northeast Louisiana. Lapeyrolerie says party members should not be discouraged especially after this recent election.

"We were very successful in our Legislative races. The leaders of the major cities in our state are Democrats and there is a lot to be said about that,"Lapeyrolerie said.

In Baton Rouge, house and senate republicans outnumber the democrats. Governor Bobby Jindal, a republican, holds the state's executive seat. But State Representative Katrina Jackson believes her party will expand.

"We'll definitely grow, get stronger, and continue to fight for the middle class people of this state," Jackson said.

The Bayou State's middle class is their target. They're hoping to get the ones registered under their party to the polls this spring to win more elections.

"When Democrats vote in higher numbers, which we need to be doing, we do win elections and we will win elections this Spring, in the Fall, as well as years to come," Lapeyrolerie said.

Voters in Louisiana will head to the polls on March 24.
