NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Sun Belt commissioner Karl Benson says the 11-team league is prepared for the anticipated rising cost of remaining part of major college football. Benson says he also has faith that leaders of the wealthiest conferences recognize they still need the other five NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision conferences for scheduling purposes.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - LSU freshman defensive tackle Trey Lealaimatafao might not be able to play this season after he injured his arm punching through glass in the Tigers' weight room. LSU spokesman Michael Bonnette says Lealaimatafao was hospitalized Monday to treat a deep cut to his arm. School officials haven't offered details on why the player punched through glass.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - L.J. Hoes homered with one out in the top of the 12th, and the Houston Astros beat the Oakland Athletics 3-2 Tuesday for their first win in four tries at the Coliseum this year. The Astros also earned their first three-game winning streak against the A's in franchise history.

ATLANTA (AP) - Jack Sock beat Alejandro Gonzalez 6-2, 6-4 in the first round of the BB&T Atlanta Open on Tuesday. Sock and partner Vasek Popisil won the doubles title at Wimbledon earlier this month, upsetting the top-ranked team of Mike and Bob Bryan.
