MONROE, La. (KNOE) - On Thursday, the Louisiana State Police Commission reduced the punishment for three troopers who took a side trip to Las Vegas while on their way to a law enforcement conference in California in 2017.

The commission voted to restore the ranks of Derrell Williams and Rodney Hyatt, who were demoted after the trip. They also overturned a letter of reprimand issued to trooper Thurman D. Miller.

Instead, the commission ordered both Williams and Hyatt to serve suspensions. Williams received a 40-hour suspension, while Hyatt received a 500-hour suspension.

The troopers were appealing the original decision, claiming former LSP Superintendent Col. Mike Edmonson approved the trip, and was in constant contact with the troopers during it.
