MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Ferrets are related to minks and weasels; they are extremely active, and love to play every day. These little creatures can sleep up to 18 hours a day, but can adapt their sleeping and active times to fit your schedule. The name "ferret" comes from the Latin "furittus", meaning "little thief". Most ferrets can live happily in a social group called a "business," but they are territorial, like to burrow, and prefer to sleep in an enclosed area.
They have a short digestive system and can quickly metabolize their food, which includes: whole small prey, including meat, organs, bones, skin, feathers, and fur.
