WEST MONROE, La. (LSP) - A West Monroe man died Wednesday afternoon after crossing the center line and striking another vehicle head-on.

Shortly before 2:00 p.m. this afternoon, Louisiana State Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 838 just west of Well Road.

The initial investigation revealed 32-year-old Edward Reneau of West Monroe was driving a Mazda west on LA 838. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle traveled into the eastbound lane and struck a Honda Odyssey, driven by 23-year-old Rebekah Smith of Farmerville.

Reneau, who was properly restrained, was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Smith who was also properly restrained was airlifted to a local hospital with serious injuries. A one year-old child, who was restrained in the Honda, was not injured during the crash.

Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
