UNION PARISH, La. (Press Release) - A Marion man has been arrested after threatening “to bash” in the heads of four law enforcement officers.

Phillip Brad Harrell, 52, was booked Tuesday into the Union Parish Detention Center on four counts each of simple assault on a police officer and resisting a police officer by force or violence and one count of battery of a police officer. His bond was set at $7,500.

Witnesses told deputies that Harrell was taking pain medication and drinking alcohol. Sheriff Dusty Gates said the witnesses reported Harrell cursing everyone present and breaking property owned by others.

When deputies approached Harrell, who was spotted near a barn on the property, they said he climbed onto a backhoe and attempted to crank it. He then punched a deputy who attempted to get him off the piece of equipment.

Gates said the suspect fought with three deputies and a Marion police officer and finally had to be shot with a Taser before he could be handcuffed.
