UPDATE: OPSO arrests suspect in Ruston attempted murder

RUSTON, La. (RUSTON PD PRESS RELEASE) -- UPDATED INFORMATION: 5/21/17

Ouachita Parish Sheriff's deputies arrested Justin Early Sunday afternoon on Berg Jones Lane in Monroe.

Early was charged with two counts of Fugitive from Justice.

Early was also wanted in what police have called an attempted homicide situation in Ruston earlier in the week.

UPDATED INFORMATION (May 18, 2017):

On May 18, 2017, Investigators with the Ruston Police Department have identified a suspect in this incident. Warrants have also been issued pursuant to this incident. Warrants for Attempted Second Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon have been issued for the arrest of Justin Lamar Early B/M 23 years of age. Justin Early has ties to the Ruston and Monroe area. Justin Early is currently under the supervision of the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections – Probation and Parole. Early should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information regarding the location of Justin Early is encouraged to contact their local law enforcement agency, the Ruston Police Department’s Criminal Investigative Division, or Crimestoppers of Ruston-Lincoln Parish.

ORIGINAL RELEASE (May 17, 2017):

On May 17, 2017 at approximately 1:50 PM, the Ruston Police Department received an E911 call regarding a shooting in the 1500 block of Martin Luther King Avenue in Ruston. Upon arrival in the area, officers from the Uniform Patrol Division located a male victim that was suffering from a gunshot wound. The Ruston Fire Department responded to the scene to render aid to the victim, who was later transferred to a Shreveport-area hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown at this time. Detectives began their follow up investigation by conducting interviews and collecting evidence. The suspect is described as a light-skinned black male wearing a red shirt. He was armed with a handgun. This incident remains under active investigation by the Criminal Investigative Division of the Ruston Police Department.
