Student found with gun at elementary school | Statement released

BASTROP, La. (KNOE) - Update: KNOE has received a statement from Morehouse Parish Schools:

"School personnel were informed today of a possible weapon at H. V. Adams Elementary School. The student suspected of having the weapon was searched and a gun was found on the student. Law enforcement were called to the school. The student’s identity is not being released as he is a juvenile. School personnel and the school board administrative staff have taken all of the appropriate actions and the investigation is under control."

Authorities say a gun was found at H.V. Adams Elementary School in Bastrop. KNOE has been told the gun was in the possession of a student who was under 10-years-old.

The acting superintendent refused to talk with KNOE. An investigation is underway to find out how the child got the gun. There's no word on yet on whether the gun was loaded. Morehouse Parish Schools district officials are not releasing how the gun was found.
