Louisiana State Police continues to investigate.
According to an arrest affidavit for the passenger in the vehicle, William Underwood, authorities say the driver would not comply with officers when stopped and attempted to drive away. The deputy reached inside the vehicle in an attempt to stop the vehicle and, according to the arrest affidavit, the driver put the deputy in a headlock.
The report says the deputy on the passenger side came to help, at which point Underwood, the passenger, got out of the vehicle and fled. The report says the deputies used a taser on the driver and then the driver pulled out a gun. That's when one deputy opened fire, killing the driver.
The report says some marijuana, meth and roughly a dozen bars of Alprazolam were found in the vehicle. The name of the driver has yet to be released.
William Underwood was arrested on drug and firearms charges.
