MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - "It's an indescribable feeling," says Jonathan Willard who celebrated his first Father's Day on Sunday.
"One of my friends texted me today and asked what is felt like, and I said a lot like winning ten million dollars, but a lot better," says Willard.
For the last nine months, Willard and his wife, their doctors, and everyone in their family had no idea whether they'd have a boy or a girl, but after a few hours in labor his son was born.
"I was pumped up I have a new hunting buddy," says Willard.
John Cooper Willard was born the day before Father's Day, and as a first time father Willard say it's an unbelievable feeling.
"To see the child for the first time it brought tears to my eyes, for sure it's something me and wife prayed about for a long time," says Willard.
The baby's full name, first, middle, and last all have a lot of meaning to Willard and his wife.
"Named after my wife's dad, her grandfather, and my grandfather," says Willard.
"As far as the Willard name getting continued on it's very special to us."
They say lots of family came to see their newest member, except Willard's 92-year-old grandfather, but that's what smart phones are for. His grandparents recorded a video of them saying Happy Father's day.
Words he's been waiting nine months to hear, but there is one thing Willard says he hasn't learned yet.
"I'm going to learn, I'll definitely learn how to change a diaper. It'll be perfect, the first messy one I'll take care of it," says Willard.
For now he's just holding on tight and never letting go, as a new father on his first Father's Day.
