The Monroe Housing Authority is the recipient of a $2.3 million Jobs Plus Grant. The money comes from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, intended to help people here in Monroe find jobs.

The Jobs Plus program was awarded to fourteen housing authorities in the nation. The program is intended for those living in the Burg Jones Plaza, where 44% of people there don't have jobs. Burg Jones manager, Curt Thomas says he knows the impact the program will have because he grew up in the development and went to Burg Jones Elementary.

Making resumes and getting interview skills are some of the points of training according to Frank Wilcox from Monroe Housing. NOVA Workforce Institute of Northeast Louisiana will be partnering with Ouachita Parish to work with residents over the next few weeks.
