Franklin Parish: Suspects charged with armed robbery, attempted murder

FRANKLIN PARISH, La. (KNOE) - UPDATE: Mon 4:00 PM, Dec 18, 2017

The Franklin Parish Sheriff's Office has released the following press release regarding the events in Franklin Parish on Monday.

Sheriff Kevin Cobb would like to report that David Johnson, DOB 08/30/1982, Rayville, Louisiana, and LaKendria Goings, DOB 04/28/1984, Monroe, Louisiana, have been arrested in connection to the armed bank robbery earlier today, December 18, 2017, at Winnsboro State Bank, Gilbert LA Branch. Johnson and Goings, pictured above, are charged with Armed Robbery, Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance with Intent to Distribute (Marijuana), Aggravated Flight From an Officer, Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. They are currently being held in the Franklin Parish Detention Center.

According to Gilbert Jr. High School's Facebook page. The school lockdown has now been lifted.

UPDATE: Mon 11:45 AM, Dec 18, 2017

Gilbert Jr. High School was on lockdown as of 11:45 am. Many local businesses still have their doors locked. According to the school board office, Gilbert Jr. High School is on a "precautionary lockdown".

According to our reporter, who is at the school, law enforcement officers were at the school but are no longer on the scene. The school is still on lockdown and some parents are outside the school.

Sheriff Cobb so far has not responded to any of our calls or text messages.

Previously:

Franklin Parish High School is no longer on lockdown. A spokesperson for the school said they were on lockdown because of a criminal pursuit in the area.

We have spoken to Sheriff Cobb who will give us details on the criminal pursuit soon.

Meanwhile, in a possibly related incident, the Gilbert Jr. High School was on lockdown as of 10:30 am due to the robbery of a nearby bank, according to the school's Facebook page. They posted the following message on their Facebook page Monday morning:

"We are still on lockdown per Sherriff. Gilbert Bank was robbed this morning. The school is under a precautionary lockdown at this time. We will inform you of when it is over. We are not allowing kids in or out of the building at this time." - Gilbert Jr. High School Facebook Page
