STERLINGTON, La. (KNOE) - The coldest weather the Ark-La-Miss has experienced in nearly three years is taking a toll on home-owners. Area plumbers have been busy with freezing and bursting pipes.

Josh Camp with Roto-Rooter said their phones have been ringing off the hook.

"Soon as the temperature starts dropping, the more calls come in," Camp said.

He said he and his team have worked more than 30 calls within the last week. Camp said those who have experienced freezing pipes in the past should leave faucets running to keep water flowing. He said fixing a frozen or busted pipe can cost anywhere from $600 to $1,000 dollars.

Camp said you want to drip the faucet "furthest from your water meter, where it comes in. That keeps the water flowing through the pipes."

He said one reason pipes burst or freeze is because they are not insulated or the pipes are too exposed to the weather.

"If your pipes are under your home and you don't have a skirt on it. you want to cover that up," Camp said. "You want to make it where the wind is not blowing on them."

If your pipe bursts, Call Roto-Rooter at 318-343-7819.
