Dangerous wind chills Monday morning

MONROE, La. (KNOE) - We've dealt with a slightly gusty wind for the majority of the day today and that will continue going through tonight and tomorrow.

Then combine that with temperatures in the mid 20s around the viewing area right now we're already dealing with wind chills in the teens! By the time you wake up on New Year's Day, wind chills will likely be in the single digits and there wont be much relief heading through the day.

This is likely the coldest air we've had in almost 3 years.

We'll still be feeling like we're in the teens by the afternoon, so make sure to bundle up! A coat, hat, gloves or mittens and boots will be your best friends to start 2018 because frostbite and hypothermia are issues that can set in in as little as 30 minutes on exposed skin.

Because we'll be dealing with frigid temperatures and dangerous wind chills, we are under a Hard Freeze Warning until 10am Monday, a Hard Freeze Watch through Wednesday, and a Wind Chill Advisory through Tuesday morning.

Temperatures will be in the teens by the morning and won't warm up too much by the afternoon where we'll likely stay below freezing. Even if we do get above freezing, we're dealing with wind gusting 20 to possibly 25 mph so that's why we'll still feel like we're in the teens by the afternoon.

The cold temperatures aren't really going anywhere fast either. Temperatures will still be in the teens Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning, and we'll stay below freezing overnight for all of this week! You'll probably want to keep pipes wrapped and pets out of the elements during this time and always remember to check on the people around you.
