Richwood, La. (KNOE) - Elementary students will have a merrier Christmas this year thanks to a local charity.

"Caring For Kids" began Monday at Madison James Foster Elementary in Richwood. The kids were called up one by one to get a teddy bear, a new school uniform, and a toy of their choice.

Mayor Jamie Mayo even suited up to help the children and take pictures.

He said "This is my 15th year doing this and it's always exciting to be able to go throughout the school system and to see the kids with such joy on their faces and many of them may not have the type of Christmas that we would like for them to have."

This charity campaign happens every year and this is the 19th year it's been around Northeast Louisiana.

Nearly 400 kids from 8 schools will get presents this holiday season.
