DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -- Many call him a miracle, and now he's celebrating a milestone this month.

Baker Mitchell of Opp, Alabama was born May 13, 2008 with a condition called Myotubular Myopath. It's a disorder found almost only in boys that affects the muscles.

Immediately after birth, Baker was intubated and flown to Children's Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.

After six months, three surgeries, a tracheotomy, feeding tube, ventilator support and training on eight machines to better his life, the Mitchell family was allowed to bring Baker home.

Initially, doctors gave Baker only a year to live. Now, he's in the third grade and will turn nine years old this month.

Baker is an avid reader and loves superheroes, Star Wars, specifically Chewbacca, and Disney.

If you would like to show Baker some birthday love, you can send a card to the following address:

The Mitchell family is planning a trip to Disney World in the fall to celebrate at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.
