BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Riverdale Christian Academy in Baton Rouge has fired an English teacher after she confessed to having sex with a 16-year-old student. Ashley Dowden originally was placed on administrative leave following her arrest last week. She faces several charges including computer-aided solicitation of a juvenile.

ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - Rapides Regional hospital in Alexandria is expected to begin construction next week on a $12.5 million expansion of its emergency department. The expansion nearly doubles department beds, from 26 to 51. Rapides Regional officials said construction will take place in three phases to minimize impact on patients.

GONZALES, La. (AP) - Ascension Parish officials say contractor has started building a nearly $6.5 million government complex in Gonzales. Work is expected to take a year. The complex will be next to the parish Clerk of Court's civil building and catty-corner to the Parish Courthouse Annex.

ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. (AP) - The West Feliciana Parish Council will consider an ordinance addressing a possible settlement of the long-simmering dispute over the land bordering the former St. Francisville ferry landing. The protracted dispute centers on a piece of property along the old Louisiana Highway 10.
