LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Lafayette firefighters say nine horses died in a barn fire.
When firefighters arrived just after 4 o'clock yesterday morning, smoke was venting through the roof and sides of the ban. The barn's owner says the fire is believed to have been sparked by lightning.
NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A 50-year-old man in Orleans Parish custody has died of cancer. The sheriff's office says John Alexcee died Tuesday at the interim LSU Hospital in New Orleans.
THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - A 24-year-old man has been arrested, accused in the death of his girlfriend's 20-month-old son. The Lafourche Parish sheriff says Emmanuel Hernandez, a Mexican National, was booked late Tuesday after being transferred from the custody of immigration officials.
LOCKPORT, La. (AP) - Bollinger Shipyards has delivered the sixth fast response cutter to the U.S. Coast Guard. It will be stationed at Miami, where the Coast Guard is scheduled to commission the vessel in August.
