NATCHITOCHES PARISH (KNOE 8 News) - A Campti man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery less than a year after he was released from prison.
Parish Sheriff Victor Jones Jr. says that deputies jailed 56-year-old Curtis Derry of Bright Morning Star Church Road in Campti after he allegedly hid at a barn on a local farm and brandished a gun at an 81-year-old farm employee. According to the charge, Derry then forced the man into a tack room where he bound his victim with rope and duct tape, after which Derry is said to have stolen an undetermined amount of money before locking the employee in the tack room and fleeing.
The Natchitoches Detention Center K-9 Tracking Team responded and began a search for Derry while the Parish Multi-Jurisdictional SWAT Team secured Derry's home. Later Derry was taken into custody at a casino in Coushatta, with the assistance of the Red River Parish Sheriff's Office.
Derry, who was released from prison in June of 2010 after serving 25 years for attempted first degree murder and aggravated burglary, is now being held in the Natchitoches Detention Center.
