BOYCE, La. (AP) - The elderly Colfax-area man who police say shot and killed his ex-wife called family and police minutes after shooting the 81-year-old woman.
Rapides Parish Sheriff's deputies are investigating the fatal shooting of Doris Hargis, who was living in the Boyce area. Deputies tell the Alexandria Daily Town Talk Hargis died early Tuesday morning, allegedly after being shot by 83-year-old Richard Hargis. Richard Hargis was arrested by Grant Parish Sheriff's deputies around 7:30 a.m. at his home.
Court records indicate that the two filed for divorce in 2008, and the divorce was finalized on May 26, 2009.
Police officials say the motive appears to be related to property and asset disputes in connection with the divorce.
Richard Hargis was booked with second-degree murder.
