WEST MONROE(KNOE 8)- A group of missionaries who attend a West Monroe Church is safe  after they were detained at the Mexican border Saturday.

Whites Ferry Road Church of Christ Pastor, Mike Kellett, tells KNOE 8 news that his church members were on a medical missions trip when they were taken into custody Saturday.

By three thirty Sunday morning all were released.

Pastor Kellett says the eight member group is now on the Texas side of the border.

He says they won't leave until they get their van and trailer back.

That won't be until Tuesday because Monday is a holiday.

At this point, he and others plan to work with doctors in Zacatecas, Mexico to get medical supplies to make sure those in need don't go without.

This is the missionary group's 18th year working with a church of christ there.

Pastor Kellett says they will be there until next Saturday.
