ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - About 100 sex offenders from a six-parish area in Central Louisiana had orders to attend a Halloween night meeting at the Louisiana Probation and Parole office in Alexandria.
Officials say the meeting, from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., is partly to help the community feel at ease, and partly to let the supervised offenders know about changes in laws affecting them.
Michael Wynne, Probation and Parole district office coordinator for sex offender matters, says it also protects offenders, since their whereabouts for the evening are on record.
The meeting is mandatory for offenders being supervised by Probation or Parole. But Wynne says officials encouraged all registered sex offenders to attend the session.
