OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Otis E. "Rocky" Kennedy has been named interim coroner in Lafayette County effective Nov. 1.

The Oxford Eagle reports that county board of supervisors appointed Kennedy on Monday. Kennedy will replace former coroner Lonnie Weaver who resigned earlier this month.

Kennedy has been serving as deputy coroner for about two years.

Kennedy will hold the position until a special election in November 2010 for the term that ends January 2012.

The other deputy coroner, Glen Coleman, will continue his position with the county, working under Kennedy.
