Trial set in Coahoma slaying

Associated Press - October 19, 2009 12:34 PM ET

CLARKSDALE, Miss. (AP) - A trial date has been set in Coahoma County Circuit Court for a man charged with capital murder in the death of his former girlfriend and with kidnapping and child abuse of the couple's then 3-year-old son.

Prosecutors tell The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson that the trial is set for Nov. 9 in Clarksdale.

Fred Lenard Jr. was indicted last December.

Prosecutors say the body of 27-year-old Katrina Dumas was found April 25, 2008, in a grassy area surrounding a cemetery. They say Dumas died as a result of strangulation and blunt force trauma to the head.

The 3-year-old was found by authorities lying in a wooded area near Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
