LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Heavy rain and high winds Sunday sent residents of south-central Arkansas scurrying for cover.
The National Weather Service office at North Little Rock said a gust estimated at 60 mph was felt at Rockport, outside Malvern, while highways in northern Hot Spring County and eastern Garland County were flooded.
Flash flood warnings were issued for the area, as well as for points further east where the storms appeared to be headed.
A weather service report said the intersection of Arkansas 117 and U.S. 270 between Jones Mill and Hot Springs was covered with 1 to 2 feet of water between 4:30 and 5 p.m., and a foot of water accumulated in the Mid-Way Barbecue restaurant at Jones Mill. A tree was reported blown over onto Interstate 30 near Friendship in southern Hot Spring County.
