Union Parish School District employees get a raise


FARMERVILLE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - It's Christmas in July for the Union Parish School Board employees. At this month's school board meeting, the board voted to give every employee a raise. 

17 hurt after multi-vehicle Madison Parish wreck


DELTA, La. (AP) - A multiple-vehicle accident on the Mississippi River bridge connecting Madison Parish, Louisiana, and Warren County, Mississippi, has sent 17 people to a hospital, most with minor injuries.

US appeals panel strikes down Miss. abortion law


JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A federal appeals court panel has ruled that a Mississippi law that would close the state's only abortion clinic is unconstitutional. The three-judge panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued its ruling Tuesday in a case involving the state's 2012 law, which required physicians at the clinic to obtain admitting privileges at a local hospital.

James Luster loses appeal in Natchez slaying


NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - The state Court of Appeals has upheld the conviction of James C. Luster for murder in a 2012 fatal shooting. Prosecutors say Carlos "Mo" Wright was shot to death outside his Natchez home by Luster on March 6, 2012.

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - A 12-month study is finally underway to examine the feasibility of re-establishing Amtrak Passenger Rail Service from Shreveport-Bossier City to Vicksburg, Mississippi. Kent Rodgers, North Louisiana Council of Governments executive director, says the study will look at the condition of existing railroad tracks between the cities, potential stops, hours of operation and the cost to operate the service.

28 Monroe area businesses cited for selling to minors


Baton Rouge, La. (KNOE 8 News ATC) - Agents with the Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control recently conducted compliance checks at 173 businesses in the Monroe and West Monroe areas. During those compliance checks, 28 of the businesses, which consist of area restaurants, bars and convenience stores, were caught selling alcohol and tobacco products to minors.
